Seasons in Russia
Russia is huge and spans many climate zones, so seasons vary very widely depending on the region.
Winter Season

December – February (but in some places starts earlier)
Typical Weather & Climate
Very cold, long winters. In many regions, temperatures can drop far below freezing. Snow cover can last 40–200 days on the Russian Plain and even longer in Siberia.
Spring Season

Transitional: snow melts, rivers swell. In southern Russia, you might see mild weather (10°C to 20°C), while in the north it’s still quite cold. Rain showers are more common.
Summer Season

Warm to hot, depending on region. In central & southern areas, temps often range from 20°C to 25°C, sometimes higher. Thunderstorms and rain are common in some regions.
Autumn (Fall) Season

Temperatures drop gradually. In early fall, it can still be quite mild (10–20°C), but later it gets colder. There’s increasing precipitation, and in some places, the leaves turn golden before the first frosts. There’s also a concept called “Velvet Season” (“бархатный сезон”) in Russia — a pleasant, warm early autumn period, especially in southern/southern-coastal areas.
